crush的基本意思是“壓碎”“壓榨”,多指在兩個堅硬物體的表面之間擠壓,所施加的力量會對原物體的形狀與完整造成破壞。其結(jié)果可以是永久破壞,其形狀也可以彈回原形。引申可指所采取的行動無法反抗,即“壓服”“壓垮”“消滅”等。
crush既可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。前者作“擠進”“擠入”解時,常與into, past, through等詞連用,后者常可用于被動語態(tài)。
crush into表示“塞進，壓進”的意思，而crush to則表示“壓到……上”，例如crush clothes into the trunk（將衣物塞進皮箱）和crush to the ground（壓到地上）。
