常用用法

1.在英式英語(yǔ)中, the hospital指具體意義,即醫(yī)院的外在形式; 而不帶the的hospital則指醫(yī)院的內(nèi)在功能——治病。故“在醫(yī)院住院”“去醫(yī)院看病”用in〔go to〕 hospital; 而“去醫(yī)院看病人”“在醫(yī)院”則用in〔go to〕 the hospital。
2.在美式英語(yǔ)中一般都要加上the。

這組詞都和醫(yī)療單位有關(guān)。其區(qū)別是：
hospital是醫(yī)院的統(tǒng)稱,特指綜合醫(yī)院,也可指獸醫(yī)院; clinic指醫(yī)院等的門(mén)診部、私人診所、學(xué)?；驒C(jī)關(guān)等的醫(yī)務(wù)室,也指專科醫(yī)院或?qū)？圃\所、醫(yī)院的各科; sanatorium一般指療養(yǎng)院、休養(yǎng)所,在英國(guó)有時(shí)也可指隔離室。例如:
He went to the hospital to see his doctor yesterday.昨天他去醫(yī)院看病了。
The outpatient clinic of this hospital was on the ground floor.這所醫(yī)院的門(mén)診部在一樓。
The old man has been living in the sanatorium for two years.這位老人在這所療養(yǎng)院里已住了兩年了。
The boy had a high fever and was sent to the sanatorium.那男孩發(fā)高燒被送進(jìn)了隔離室。
