專有名詞前冠詞的用法

1．除了某些特殊情況，專有名詞前一般不加冠詞，

Mr．Brown，Vice—Director Liu，Germany，Paris，Southeast Asia，Ancient Greece，New England，July，Monday，English

2．在不少情況下專有名詞前要加定冠詞，如：

1)江河海洋的名稱：

the Yellow River黃河，

the East China Sea東海，

the Pacific Ocean太平洋，

the Arctic北冰洋。

2)山脈群島，海灣海峽的名稱：

the Alps阿爾卑斯山，The Rocky Mountains洛磯山脈，

the Philippines菲律賓群島，the Taiwan Straits臺灣海峽，

the Persian Gulf波斯灣

但單山獨島名稱前不加冠詞：

Mount Emei 峨嵋山，Christian Island聖誕島

3)某些國名、組織機搆等名稱：

the People's Republic of China 中華人民共和國，

the United Kingdom聯(lián)郃王國，the United Nations聯(lián)郃國，

the Ministry of Education教育部，the State Council國務(wù)院，

the State Department美國國務(wù)院，

the House of Commons美國下議院

(但：Congress美國國會，Parliament英國國會)

4)某些建築物：

the National Gallery 國家美術(shù)館，

the Military Museum 軍事博物館，the Capital Theater 首都劇場

the Peace Hotel和平飯店，the Pentagon五角大樓，

the White House白宮

5)報紙、會議、條約等的名稱：

the Washington Post華盛頓郵報，the Daily Mail每日郵報，

The Times泰晤士報，the New York Times紐約時報，

the Geneva Conference 日內(nèi)瓦會議，

the North Atlantic Pact 北大西洋公約

但有些專有名詞前多不加冠詞，如街名，廣場名

Fleet Street艦隊街，Riverside Avenue濱河大道

大學(xué)名，節(jié)日名，襍志名

Times Square時代廣場，Oxford University 牛津大學(xué)

Christmas，聖誕節(jié)，May Day五一節(jié)
