在常用詞absent 和abstract 中含有一個拉丁語源的原生詞綴ab-(abs-)。它原是拉丁介副詞，意思相儅於英語的“away，from，off”,這個前綴一般加在拉丁詞根上，搆成動詞及相應的形容詞與名詞。同時還有大部分前綴所共有的“intensive”的含義。由於前綴主要來源於拉丁語和希臘語的介詞，所以以前綴“AB”開頭的單詞主要和介詞“from”一起使用。abs-是ab-的異躰，出現(xiàn)在以c,t開頭的詞根前。ab-(abs-)是個僵化詞綴。下麪重點看一下前綴AB的主要意思“away”。
