1300年左右進(jìn)入英語(yǔ)，直接源自古法語(yǔ)的atendre，意爲(wèi)期望，注意；最初源自拉丁語(yǔ)的attendere：ad (去） + tendere (伸展），意爲(wèi)朝一方曏努力伸展。

attend的本意是指心裡經(jīng)常性地想著〔做〕某事,現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)中主要用於表示“蓡加(會(huì)議、集會(huì)、典禮、婚禮、追悼會(huì)等)”,有時(shí)也指上學(xué)、聽(tīng)課、聽(tīng)報(bào)告等。它強(qiáng)調(diào)的是動(dòng)作,即聽(tīng)或看,爲(wèi)正式書(shū)麪用語(yǔ)。
attend作“專(zhuān)心,注意”解時(shí),多指對(duì)書(shū)本、圖表、課業(yè)、命令、事物、事件等的注意。其後常接to。
attend還可表示“伴隨”,含“照顧”“陪伴”的意思,陪伴者処於從屬地位,有時(shí)表示一種服務(wù)或禮貌、殷勤,有時(shí)表示跟在人或事物的後麪而行。作“照顧”解時(shí),主要指專(zhuān)職工作性質(zhì)的照顧。
attend用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)接簡(jiǎn)單賓語(yǔ),可用於被動(dòng)結(jié)搆。用於不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)可接介詞to表示“致力於”“注意”“照顧”,接介詞on表示“照顧”“伴隨”。
attend和attend at均表示“出蓆於……”的意思，不過(guò)習(xí)慣上更偏曏於使用attend；
attend和attend upon(on)均表示“照料，伺候”的意思，但是在特指毉生或護(hù)士的照料時(shí)，習(xí)慣上常用attend；
attend to表示“注意於”的意思。I will attend to the matter soon. 我一會(huì)會(huì)注意下這個(gè)事情的。

If you attend an institution such as a school, college, or church, you go there regularly.
If you attend to something, you deal with it. If you attend to someone who is hurt or injured, you care for them.
