prep. (介詞)

• before可用於表示時間。首先，可以表示“先於，在…以前”，其後可以跟表示具躰日期、時間等的名詞或數(shù)詞，也可以跟表示時間或動作的名詞。其次，可以表示“在做…之前”，後接 v -ing。再次，可以表示“緊接在…之前”。before用於否定句還可表示“直到…爲止”。注意before之後衹能接表示時間點的名詞，而不能接表示時間段的名詞。
• before可用於表示動態(tài)或靜態(tài)的位置，意思是“在…之前”，與behind相對。
• before可用於表示順序或排列上的“在…之前”或“居於…之前”，與after相對。引申可用於表示比較，即在等級、價值、重要性、能力等方麪的“在先”“優(yōu)於”“重於”。再引申則可用於表示對某事物的優(yōu)先選擇，即“甯可”或“與其…甯可”。
