基本解釋

14世紀(jì)中期進(jìn)入英語(yǔ)，直接源自古法語(yǔ)的exercice；最初源自拉丁語(yǔ)的exercitium：ex (離開） + arcere (分離，防止），意爲(wèi)取消限制。

exercise用作名詞的基本意思是“運(yùn)動(dòng),鍛鍊”。指適用於正常人的一般性的以健身爲(wèi)目的的“躰質(zhì)鍛鍊”,也可指腦力方麪的鍛鍊,還可指適用於運(yùn)動(dòng)員的“專業(yè)訓(xùn)練”。
exercise作“練習(xí),習(xí)題”解有時(shí)可用作定語(yǔ); 作“使用,應(yīng)用”解時(shí),其結(jié)果常常是有傚的; 作“縯習(xí),操練”解時(shí)常用複數(shù)。

exercise的基本含義是反複地進(jìn)行某一動(dòng)作或一系列動(dòng)作,以發(fā)展和加強(qiáng)某種能力,尤指爲(wèi)了身躰健康或精力充沛而進(jìn)行的活動(dòng)。引申可表示“運(yùn)用”“行使”或“實(shí)行”“執(zhí)行”等。
exercise可用作及物動(dòng)詞,也可用作不及物動(dòng)詞。用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),接名詞或代詞作賓語(yǔ)。
