ABLE和CAPABLE的區(qū)別

able和capable這兩個(gè)詞都可表示“有能力的”。其區(qū)別是：

①abe側(cè)重于做事的能力”，指超過(guò)一般水平的能力；

capable側(cè)重于適應(yīng)性的“能力”，指滿足于一般要求的能力。例如

He is an able man who you can fall back on.他是個(gè)能千的人，你可以依靠他

What they want to know is whether he is capable of holding that

important post.他們想知道的是他是否有能力保住那一重要職位

②abe只用于褒義；而 capable既可用于褒義，也可用于貶義。例如:

He is the ablest man I knou.他是我所認(rèn)識(shí)的最有才干的人

Let me introduce a capable doctor to your parents.讓我來(lái)把這位能干的醫(yī)生介紹給你的父母。

The scandal is capable of the basest tricks，這個(gè)壞蛋什么卑鄙的勾當(dāng)都干的出來(lái)

③able只用于有生命的入或動(dòng)物；而 capable既可用于有生命的人或動(dòng)物，也可用于無(wú)生命的事物。例如

There are many able students in our institute。我們學(xué)校有許多有才能的學(xué)生。

Glass, which breaks at a blow, is, nevertheless, capable of with-

standing great pressure。玻璃盡管一擊就碎，但卻能承受很大的壓力。

④able后接動(dòng)詞不定式；而 capable接“of+動(dòng)名詞”。例如：

Owls are able to see in the dark。貓頭鷹能在黑暗中看見(jiàn)東西

The company was not capable of handling such a large order.

公司沒(méi)有能力處理這樣一大宗訂貨。
